The University of St. Thomas (, a private Catholic university committed to the liberal arts and to the religious and Intellectual traditions of the Catholic higher education, is seeking a Financial Aid Counselor.


Manages Federal Direct Loan Program, including Subsidized and Unsubsidized loans. Oversee Federal and State Work Study programs.  Also, counsel students regarding availability of scholarships and financial aid.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Administration of Federal Direct Loan Program with the system functions associated with the program
  • Import and export system process from PeopleSoft to Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) system.
  • Manage Federal and State Work Study funds to ensure eligible students work and are able to utilize our allocations.
  • Assist Assistant Director in the Return of Title IV of the Federal Direct Loan Program
  • Counsel students and parents regarding the loan application process
  • Counsel students and their families regarding financial aid eligibility, assistance programs available, and their rights and responsibilities associated with those programs
  • Utilize & process professional judgment to evaluate changed circumstances
  • Assist with the distribution of information on various financial aid programs available to students; conduct financial aid presentations on campus and in the community
  • Provide support to the other financial aid professionals and promote a cross-trained student-centered atmosphere
  • Work cooperatively with other university offices to efficiently and effectively meet the needs of students and families
  • Work with other professional staff in counseling students and applicants with the financial aid process

Qualifications and Requirements:

  •  Education 
    • Minimum of Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience 
    • Prior financial aid work experience
    • Working knowledge of the financial aid application process and various federal and state financial aid programs.
    • Familiarity of current issues effecting the financial aid and scholarship profession
    • Demonstrated exceptional mathematical ability and public relations skills

Working Conditions:

  • May be required to work weekend/evening hours during peak periods.
  • Significant amounts of personal, phone, and electronic interaction with others.
  • When workload demands, individuals will be expected to work the necessary hours to get the job done.
  • Physical capabilities for normal office environment required.
  • Very limited travel.
  • Non-smoking environment.
