Custodial Services

The University of St. Thomas (UST), a private Catholic University committed to the liberal arts and the religious and intellectual tradition of Catholic higher education, located in Houston, Texas, near the vibrant central business district, Texas Medical Center, and museum district, is seeking applicants for a full-time Custodian. The position reports directly to the Manager, Custodial Services. The regular schedule for this position is Monday to Friday, 5:40 am to 2:15 pm.


  • Sweeps, vacuums, mops, dusts, cleans, and disinfects facilities.
  • Wipes, dusts, and polishes furniture, fixtures, doors and windows.
  • Wipes and scrubs sinks, tubs, toilets and tiles.
  • Moves and/or re-arranges furniture, chairs, desks, tables, etc., as needed.
  • Removes debris and leaves from front entrances of buildings with blower.
  • Polishes metal work as needed.
  • Stocks restrooms with paper products, soap and/or hand sanitizer.
  • Empties wastebaskets and replaces liners in wastebaskets.
  • Empties exterior trashcans scattered throughout campus.
  • Picks up loose trash around campus.
  • Places trash in collection areas for removal from campus.
  • Carries out cleaning tasks assigned by Custodial Manager.
  • Notifies management of deficiencies or need for repairs.
  • Notifies management of supplies needed to be ordered.
  • Follow all health and safety regulations.
  • Notifies Manager when potential safety issues arise.
  • Notifies Manager when supplies, chemicals, and materials need to be replenished.
  • Lifts, carries, and relocates a variety of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Management.
  • Answer and respond to daily custodial calls around campus

Education and Experience:

Education: High School Diploma or GED Equivalent preferred but not required.

Experience: At least two (2) years of experience in the Custodial industry preferred. Will provide training if needed.


  • Knowledge of safely mixing and applying custodial chemicals.
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods and procedures.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills to send and receive emails.
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) preferred but not required but must have some English speaking ability.
  • Must be able to read, write and follow oral instructions.
  • Must be able to climb stairs and ladders.
  • Must be able to reach overhead for extended periods.
  • Must be able to stand and/or walk for extended periods.
  • Must remain flexible to work weekends, holidays and odd hours.
  • Must be able to lift minimum of 10 lbs. on a regular basis
